Sonbar basenjis was established in 1970. We breed basenjis exclusively. Sonbar Basenjis compete in conformation, obedience, rally, lure trials and agility.
We have 109 homebred champions which include:
- 2 multiple Best in show winners
- 38 specialty winners, with several multiple specialty winners.
- 36 different Sonbar basenjis have been awarded group placements, (11 of them awarded Group 1).
Our mission is to produce excellent temperament, with health a big consideration in our breeding program. All of our breeding stock is health tested, including the NEW DIRECT DNA test for Fanconi status. Click on the BCOA button and follow the links for information about the DNA test.
Sonbar basenjis have many generations of eye exam results and hip xrays (OFA) results for you to examine.
We breed only AKC registered basenjis, most of them are also AKC champions. We breed our girls to AKC Champion males.

Sonar (AKA BIS UKC &AKC GCH Sonbar's Sonic Shockwave AKC CD RE NA OAJ was awarded BB at the Wisconsin specialty in July '10, photo on left. His BIS photo on right. He also was awarded AOM at nationals!
Sonar has had a busy year, he earned his RE (Rally Excellent) and his NA(Novice agility) & OAJ (Open Agility Jumpers, also his NAJ, needed to participate in the open class) titles plus his Grand CH title all in 2011. Over nationals week, he added his CD to a growing list of titles for our working boy!
Special congrats to Diana Dickhausen for earning her Rally Excellent degreee on Ch Sonbar's Nifty Natalie RE! YEA!
We have 1 new AKC Ch, as of July 15th, 2011. She's now AKC Ch Sonbar's Undeniably Unique. She is the 14th Champion offspring of our top producing bitch, Ch Sonbar's Graceful Goddess.

September was a month to remember!
Sonbar's Zfor Zorro won 5 point major the Sat. B/4 nationals, then BOS in sweeps at nationals.
Clue finished her AKC CH with her 3rd 5 point major at BCSW Sept. Specialty, in conjunction with nationals. And got an AOM at nationals!
And Sonar got his CD in 3 consecutive trials, with HIT at nationals!
