Sonbar basenjis was established in 1970. We breed basenjis, exclusively. Sonbar Basenjis compete in conformation, obedience, lure trials and agility.
We have 105 homebred champions which include:
- 2 multiple Best in show winners
- 35 specialty winners, with several multiple specialty winners.
- 36 different Sonbar basenjis have been awarded group placements, (11 of them awarded Group 1).
Our mission is to produce excellent temperament, with health a big consideration in our breeding program. All of our breeding stock is health tested, including the NEW DNA test for Fanconi status. Click on the BCOA button and follow the links for information about the NEW DNA test.
Sonbar basenjis have many generations of eye exam results and hip xrays (OFA) results for you to examine.
We breed only AKC registered basenjis, most of them are also AKC champions. We breed our girls to AKC Champion males.

The below two pictures are of 5/6 of the Irish x Will litter. Taken when the pups were 8 weeks old.
We had a very good 4 days of shows in KC, mid August. Sonic was BW at 3 of the 4 shows, for 3 majors. Gabby was WB at 2 of the shows, for majors. Rosie was WB at 1 show for 2 points! Pictures will be added when they arrive. Both Sonic's and Gabby's mothers will be having puppies this fall. Contact me to express interest in getting a puppy from either of these two specialty winner producers!
Sparkie was the big Sonbar winner at nationals, going High in Trial! 193 from open B. Yea Sparkie!!!
Sam (Sonbar's Seventh Son of Djakomba) was Best Male puppy in sweepstakes. He also won the 9-12 AOC class in the regular classes. I'll post pictures asap. Sam finished his Ch requirements Sept 27 & 28, going BB over the special both days and winning a group 3 on Sunday!
Sam's littermate, Sonar (Sonbar's Sonic Shockwave) finished his Ch requirements 10-5, by going BB over the special at his last 2 shows as a class dog. He will be specialed, locally.
Rosie is now an AKC Champion! Rosie won her last major on Sunday, after the Indian Nations specialty. Gabby had a good time at the all breed shows after the specialty, too. She won the puppy bitch class each day. Picture of Rosie will be on her page, when it arrives!

BBE class and also wins BBE group 1 on 4-4!
On 4-5 she won a group 3.

4-4-09 Gabby was awarded BB over a special and then won the hound group 1. There was also a BBE group competition where she also won the hound BBE group 1. The next day she won a group 3, after defeating the special to win Best of Breed. Gabby now has 3 majors, 14 points to her Championship.
